I Want to Make a Video Game, but I Don’t Have a Clue Where to Start

Have you ever wanted to make a video game, but didn’t know where to start? This interactive learning discussion will provide you with techniques for coming up with ideas, and explore ways to get you started making video games! If you have some ideas, bring them for a quick brainstorming session. During this conversation, you will also be provided with links to free resources so you can get your game done! Participants are encouraged and welcome to raise questions during this meeting. This will be an open talk lead by Pamela “PMac” McMillan from PETAL et al. an entertainment technology arts training nonprofit organization.

The Theoretical and Literary Multiverse for Nerds and Geeks Alike Presentation & Discussion

Description:
This presentation reviews the concept of the Multiverse both in regards to theoretical physics, and entertainment mediums such as comic books and video games. We attempt to explore different interpretations of alternate realities as well as creating the ideal reality. We will discuss the SETI program, philosophy, Neil Gaiman’s the Sandman, Game Theory, and more. Join us as we travail the multiple perspectives that exist on alternate realities and environments while discussing human interaction and development as an allegorical model of Universal Truths.

Functional RPGs for Simulation Experiences

During this presentation, game creator Michele McMillan will be presenting a video game she created at the 48-hr Global Game Jam. The game attempts to illustrate how certain real world situations can be simulated using games. She will cover the thought process involved in brainstorming, developing, and choosing an aesthetic that works with your game. The Linguistics focused game being featured by her was made using RPG Maker. This open discussion will be lead by Michele McMillan from PETAL et al. an entertainment technology arts training nonprofit organization.
