Marjorie Allea Anderson

Marjorie AndersonAnderson currently works as  Program Coordinator in the Office of Engineering Studies at a State University in Illinois.  She recruits, advises, and handles other retention related activities.

She also runs a summer program for incoming Engineering majors. The Prematriculation Summer Institute is geared towards expediting students’ matriculation experience by sharpening writing and computational skills.

Anderson served as a Retention Specialist in Admissions at Northeastern Illinois University where she executed and managed retention activities and coordinated the Summer Transition Program. Subsequently, she served as Library Assistant in the University’s Library.

As an After School Instructor for the National Society of Black Engineers, Chicago Chapter, Anderson, in the capacity of an Independent Contractor, was instrumental in implementing steps to improve standardized testing scores of Englewood High School students involved in the Robotics Apprenticeship through After School Matters, Chicago.

Subsequently, Anderson served as a Middle School Science teacher at Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School where she taught 5th, 7th and 8th Graders in the sciences – General Science, Life Science and Physical Science.

Anderson served as a Professional Developer in Science at the Teachers Academy for Mathematics and Science in Chicago. She facilitated the staff development of Illinois teachers in standards-based mathematic and science curriculum. Further, she supported classroom teachers with implementation, modeling, and observation of hands-on, mathematics integrated with quantitative science; coordinated school-wide curriculum scope-and-sequence frameworks and other quantitative projects; represented the academy at state and regional conferences and community events, and handled the Science Materials’ Budget for distribution and program use.

In the course of her professional career, Anderson also served as a substitute teacher in the Chicago Public School System; tutored college-level calculus, physics, and mechanics to current and prospective IIT students, and was a teaching assistant to IIT students in various engineering projects.

Anderson is a member of several professional organizations, including the
National Science Teachers Association, National Staff Development Council,
Academy IV Graduate; National Technical Association, National Society of
Black Engineers and the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics.
